Auditions,

This page contains all the information you'll need for your audition.

If you're planning on auditioning you, and your parents/guardians, need to know that you'll have to put in a lot of work! The camp and all the rehearsals are compulsory for all the cast so don't audition if you cannot commit to those dates. You'll also have to learn your lines and it could mean some late nights especially in the week before the show. But it will all be worth it!

Where / When

Open auditions will take place on the following dates:
  • Thursday 13th May, Haworth Community Centre 6pm - 8pm
  • Monday 17th May, Riddlesden Scout HQ, East Riddlesden Hall 6pm - 8pm
  • Thursday 20th May, Fell Lane Scout HQ, 6pm - 8pm

Please bring this form with you to your audition.

What should I do

Basically anything you think will entertain us! The only thing we don't want is playing musical instruments as it's unlikely any will be in the show.

We've come up with a few ideas below feel free to do one of these or make up your own:

  • Sing Kum Ba Yar, Lyrics, New
  • Sing and/or Dance the Twist (we'll have the music for this at the audition) Lyrics, Video
  • Rap Dizzee Rascals Holiday (we'll have the music for this at the audition) Lyrics, Video
  • Read this monologue from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll Words
  • Tell us some jokes.

What will happen at my audition?

You'll be welcomed by one of our crew who will take your form off you and take your photo. You can then relax for a bit in the waiting area they'll be Tea, Coffee, Juice and Biscuits. Once we're ready for you we'll ask you to come into the audition room. We don't allow parents into the audition room but they can wait outside.

The crew you'll do your audition for will consist of the producer Moz! assistant producer Bev and two more members of the crew (see us all on the crew page). After your audition we'll write to you letting you know how you've done. We need to have all the auditions before we let you know but we'll put the letters in first class post on Monday 24th May so you should know by Tuesday 25th.

Moz!'s top audition tips

  1. The most important thing we're looking for is confidence, or at least the potential for confidence! You need to show us that you can perform on a stage and get along with the rest of the cast.
  2. When choosing your audition piece choose something that shows off what you're good at.
  3. Choose an audition piece that you enjoy performing. This will show whilst your doing it.
  4. Don't be nervous, it's not the x-factor we wont give you any nasty comments or buzz you off and if you do go wrong we wont tell anyone!
  5. Smile :)

Frequently asked Questions

Does it matter if I do one of the recommended audition pieces?
No. Do something that shows off what your good at if that's something we've suggested brilliant if not brilliant. The most important thing is it shows us what you can do.

What if I know I can't make one of the rehearsal dates or the camp?
It's really important you make all the rehearsals but we do know people have busy lives and thing crop up. If you know you can't make a date tell us when you audition but it wont automatically exclude you from being selected. However, the dates were given out before Christmas 2009 and we do expect you to keep them clear if at all possible. If you miss a few rehearsals you might not be able to take part in the show.

I don't like camping do I have to go to the camp?
The camp is a really important chance to get to know everyone but we'll also be casting during the camp so if you miss it you could miss out on a role. We aren't far from home and have some very experienced leaders who have seen most things before, if you have a medical problem or get home sick talk to us, you'll probably find that a leader from your group is going anyway! If you really don't want to stay over night parents can always drop you off on a morning and pick you up in the evening.

Will it mean lots of late nights?
If you're a Beaver we'll do our best to put you in the first rehearsal slot so you'll finish at 7:30pm but sometimes it will be unavoidable that a rehearsal wont finish till 9pm. In the week before the show we will have a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening which wont finish till 9pm and then shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening so it will mean some late nights that week (although you can have a lie in Saturday morning). In our experience even the youngest Beavers manage everything but we do appreciate this is an issue so if you have a suggestion please let us know!

Should I wear uniform to the audition?
Only if you want to!

Who can Audition?
To audition you must be a current Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer or Network member of a Scout group in Keighley.

Do I need to bring any equipment?
We'll have a CD player but you'll need to bring any music (unless it's one of the pieces we've suggested above) and any props you want for your act.

Where can I get copies of backing tracks?
The tracks we use for the suggested peices come from www.karaoke-version.com there are loads of songs on there that you can download to practice with and burn to CD to bring to the audition.

Will you give preference to previous cast members?
No. It's only fair that everyone an equal chance to be in the show and we'll do our best not to give previosu cast members a advantage or disadvantage.
