	Challenge Flag Despite a very wet start that led to the first night of the camp being cancelled and the Camp Cook being postponed the challenge flag was once again a great success. Sunshine decorated the Saturday which saw the Districts most important Scout Competition, 8 teams completed team building and traditional Scouting Competitions in a bid to get points. The results were very close but 6th Keighley Oakworth did a clean sweep taking the top three places! Congratulations. A majority of the teams then camped over Saturday night and enjoyed a different more relaxed than normal atmosphere on Sunday.

	Gangshow Camp The Gangshow preparations stepped up a gear with this camp for all cats and crew. A video "Is this the way to Blackhills Scout Camp?" was filmed and casting was completed. Importantly all members of the cast got along and a good team spirit developed. Head over to the gangshow page for pictures and video!
	District Scout Hub Camp Blackhills was the venue for the first District Scout Hub Camp 70 Scouts from across the district completed a weekend camp with activities including, absailing, crate climbing, archery, shooting and many more. Despite it being a tad moist on the Saturday fun was had by all.
	Cub Quiz June saw the 2008 Cub Quiz take place, many teams entered answering general knowledge and scouting questions. The winners were 2nd Keighley 2nd Riddlesden with 159 points, in second were 23rd Keighley St Annes with 144 points and in 3rd were 14th Keighley Haworth on 141 points. Congratulations to all who entered.
	Network highest in England Members of Keighley's highly successful Network unit, Cobbydale, spent the night at the highest campsite in England at the top of Scafell Pike. They were running a checkpoint for the Virgin Media 3 peak challenge and saw over 30 teams through without incident. Network is the Oldest Section of Scouting for 18-25's and is open to new members of the movement. Contact Cobbydale Network through the Contact page for more info.
	District Development Weekend This was a first in Keighley, indeed the county, the District Team and Group Scout Leaders met together in the beautiful surroundings of High Trenhouse Management Creativity Center near Malham Tarn. The event was made possible by generous grants from a few sources, thanks to everyone who supported us. It wasn't all fun and games though, a lot of hard work was put into the District Development Plan and we now have an exciting blue print for the future of Scouting in Keighley. Everyone who went will agree that it was an incredibly beneficial experience that will benefit the young people of Keighley immensely.
	Scout Shuffle 12 teams from across the District entered the 2008 Shuffle which is billed as "the biggest game of hide and seek you'll ever play". Teams of 4 or 5 Scouts had to navigate the 12 miles from Ogden Water in Denholme to Low Wood in Riddlesden without being caught by "hunter" leaders. Winners were 14th Keighley Haworth loosing three lives, although 2nd Keighley Riddlesden only lost two but arrived four minutes after the deadline. However Riddlesden did win the supported competition only loosing one life. Well done to everyone who took part, now put your feet up.
	St Georges Day The biggest event of the Scouting year happened on the 20th April and once again we showed what we're made of an estimated 500 people filled St Anne's Church after Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and leaders paraded up Cavendish Street lead by the city of Bradford pipe band. This year the service featured a review of the 2007 centenary, bringing back many memories from a memorable year.
	Awards Scouting is a volunteer lead organisation and once a year awards are given to some of those who have given exceptional, long or usually both service to the movement. This year the following more than deserved their awards, congratulations to them, and everyone else who makes this movement so special! Silver Acorn, Jeanette Young, District Commissioner. 	5-a-side The annual 5-a-side competition took place as traditional on the Saturday before St Georges Parade and was well attended as always. Winners were, Beavers: 3rd Keighley Steeton and Silsden (left), Cubs: 2nd Keighley 2nd Riddlesden and Scouts: 1st Silsden St James. Congratulations to all winners runners up and everyone else.
	Cub Challenge Flag Also on Saturday the District turned out in force for the Cub Challenge Flag. Three times current champions Riddlesden were overcome by a strong St Anne's Team who won the years most converted cub competition. Teams from all but one group took part in quiz's, problem solving tasks and games at Riddlesden URC Church on Bar Lane.
	Scout Indoor Cooking Saturday saw a good attendance for the Scout Indoor Cooking competition. Teams from around the District cooked a 3 course meal for 2 and were judged on the presentation, hygiene, menus and of course taste. They were foxed slightly by the surprise inclusion of Liver in the shopping bag but the overall winners Oakworth overcame this to take both the top spots. Click here for photos
	Sid Olsson 1924 - 2008 It with great sadness that we report the death of Sid Olsson on the 13th February 2008 in Airedale General Hospital. Sid dedicated much of his adult life to Scouting holding many positions at both District and County level. He was most strongly linked to 19th Keighley Ingrow where he was Scout Leader and later GSL for many years. Through his wife Olga he was also involved with Guiding. The funeral will be held at St Johns Ingrow at 11:15am on the 22nd Feb (Thinking day) with the cremation at Oakworth for 12:15pm followed by a wake at the Golden Fleece in Oakworth. A collection will be held instead of Flowers with proceeds being spilt between Ingrow Scout & Guide group and Wynches. He will be sorely missed not only by Scouting but by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He leaves his wife, 4 children and many grandchildren. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
	Scout Quiz The first competition of the year was the Scout Quiz held in Haworth on Saturday, Riddlesden answered general knowledge, nature, Scouting and music questions to take the title. Oakworth finished a close second and Haworth were third well done to everyone.
	Happy New Year! The Centenary may be over but now we're just counting down to our 100th Birthday in Keighley in 2010. However, that doesn't mean nothing will happen in 2008! There's a lot planned including the first District Gang Show, a District Scout Section Camp, more Sainsbury's and more again! We hope you have a great Scouting 2008 and if you've not joined yet why not make it your new years resolution to do so.
